My Experience in Phuket — Thailand

Today I’ll bring you to Phuket the biggest island of Thailand, where I have spent few days exploring the island and the surroundings.

My girlfriend and I took the plane from Bangkok-Don Mueang airport with NokAir airline company and we spent 30€ each with baggage. We landed at Phuket’s airport and at the exit, there was a lot of taxi and minibus. I personally recommend the Minibus, because they are cheaper than taxis and they bring you almost to every part of the island.

We lodged in a hotel in Patong, the biggest and famous city in Phuket (with hindsight I suggest staying in Karon or Kata, which are two cities near Patong because there is less tourism and less noise — However, depends on what are you looking for). In Patong there are several restaurants where you can eat whatever you want, discos, bars, and almost all the shops are thought and created for tourists. From my point of view, I prefer something wilder and more pristine.

We explored half of the island, the occidental cost. We bought an excursion to the most well know Phi Phi Island, and I have to say… those are mind-boggling and breathtaking. The color of the water, the imposing rocks that emerge from the bottom of the ocean are something that you can admire only in Thailand.

Moreover, we decided to buy another less-known excursion to Ko Kradan (Ko in the Thai language means “Island”). I have to say this is what I was looking for… The purest island I have ever been to. There were one traditional bar and a typical restaurant in the center of the island that served only traditional food.

Last but not least, the Phuket Elephant Sanctuary. In this amazing place the local people take care of these wondrous animals, they feed and if necessary heal them. The mission of this beautiful organization is to spread the value that ride elephants are disrespectful and wrong. Riding an elephant is wrong as the locals are forced to harm the elephant in such a way that it obeys orders imposed by its teacher. Indeed, in this location, you can feed and wash them in the purest way.
